Circular / Semi-Circular Driveways

With today's two- and three-car families, a spacious driveway can be a necessity in areas with limited street parking. If your currently having this issue, consider converting your small driveway into a circular or semi-circular driveway. Its shape means there can be a constant flow of vehicles and will allow more space for other vehicles versus the standard rectangular driveway. The central area within a circular or semi circular driveway can also be utilised in other ways or even beautifully landscaped. Driveways have a functional purpose but, if planned properly, can also be a decorative feature that compliments your home’s design.

Podocarpus - more than just a shrub

Podocarpus is an excellent hedge, often used for privacy but can also be used as a beautiful topiary. Since it grows very dense and has a rich green color, podocarpus can be kept very neat and lends a well-groomed look to the garden or yard. Podocarpus can reach 60 feet, but grows very slowly (less than 6" per year). The plant can go without bright or direct light for long stretches but will grow taller and faster under the bright light of the sun. All in all, if your looking for complete privacy in your backyard or just looking to add a beautiful topiary plant to your garden, podocarpus is a great, low-maintenance option.

Designing your outdoor space

When designing your ideal outdoor space, there are 2 distinct categories of work that you'll see: hardscape and landscape. Hardscape is any of the non-living elements in your landscape design such as concrete, rocks, bricks, pavers, and stone. Hardscape also includes man-made structures like decks, pergolas, or patio covers that are used specifically in your landscaping.

Landscaping on the other hand refers to all of the living things in your design such as grass, plants, trees and flowers. Both, when designed and implemented together properly, create the perfect space for you to relax, entertain, and enjoy the great outdoors with your friends and family.

Privacy hedges

If you need privacy in your yard, and a fence is out of the question, you still have plenty of options. There’s a great selection of trees, shrubs, and vines that can help you turn your property into a secluded tropical paradise.

For starters, the Podocarpus is an especially easy-to-grow plant that can reach up to 50ft high. The soft, fine-textured foliage is great-looking when sheared and makes an outstanding thick hedge for privacy.

Another one of our favorite hedges are Clusia’s. Branching out close to the ground, Clusia produces a dense hedge of olive-green thick leaves. Clusia is a large plant, it will grow easily 20 to 25 feet tall but it can be trimmed to your preference. On...
